Look up Terraform providers and modules and manage HCP Terraform workspaces from an assistant.
Best for
Infrastructure engineers who write Terraform with an assistant and want provider and module details looked up live rather than guessed.
This server runs on your machine. The publisher's guide has the exact command and settings for your client.
Before you connect
Depending on the query, the server may expose Terraform data to the MCP client and the model. The README says not to use it with untrusted MCP clients or models.
Docker image · stdiodocker.io/hashicorp/terraform-mcp-server:1.4.1
HashiCorp's Terraform MCP Server gives an assistant current information from the public Terraform Registry, covering providers, modules and policies, which helps it write accurate configuration instead of guessing from training data. With an HCP Terraform or Terraform Enterprise token it can also work with organizations, projects and workspaces, including variables, tags and runs. It runs locally from a Docker image over stdio by default, and can serve Streamable HTTP when configured. A setting called ENABLE_TF_OPERATIONS, off by default, controls the tools that require explicit approval.
TFE_TOKEN holds an HCP Terraform or Terraform Enterprise API token, and TFE_ADDRESS sets the address for self-managed Terraform Enterprise.

Registry name io.github.hashicorp/terraform-mcp-server. The registry only lets an organization's owners publish under its io.github.<org> namespace (registry authentication docs, read 2026-10-30). The repository is in the hashicorp organization, and its README describes the server as integrating the Terraform Registry and HCP Terraform APIs (read 2026-10-31).
Listing on HistChat is not an endorsement or a security review. MCP servers can access data or perform actions, so review the source and permissions before connecting.
