by Amazon Web Services
Give an assistant access to AWS services and current AWS documentation through a managed server that runs under your IAM credentials.
Best for
Coding agents that build and operate on AWS and should stay inside existing IAM policies, with one endpoint shared by Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other clients.
AWS documents OAuth and SigV4 setup for each of its Regions. The registry lists only the local SigV4 proxy, which is a helper for the managed server, not the server itself.
Before you connect
The assistant can do whatever the IAM identity behind your credentials is allowed to do. The guide says the server adds no permissions of its own, so use a narrowly scoped role.
Python package (PyPI) · stdiomcp-proxy-for-aws@1.1.6
The AWS MCP Server is a managed, remote endpoint offered in several AWS Regions. It lets a coding assistant search AWS documentation and run AWS API calls on your behalf. Requests run under your own IAM credentials, so the permissions you already maintain decide what the assistant can do, and the server adds condition keys so policies can target agent-initiated calls. You connect with OAuth, or with SigV4 signing through the MCP Proxy for AWS, which is the local package the registry lists. It is one part of the Agent Toolkit for AWS, which also includes skills and plugins.
Two options. OAuth connects directly once an IAM policy allows the sign-in flow, but it cannot switch between AWS profiles. SigV4 signs requests with your AWS CLI credentials through the MCP Proxy for AWS and needs the AWS CLI (2.32 or later) and uv. Both run under your IAM permissions.
Hosted by the publisher. The package the registry lists is a local helper, not the server.
Statements on this page come from
Registry name io.github.aws/aws-mcp. The registry only lets an organization's owners publish under its io.github.<org> namespace (registry authentication docs, read 2026-10-30). The entry's website is on docs.aws.amazon.com, and the Agent Toolkit for AWS user guide there describes the AWS MCP Server, its regional endpoints and its IAM behavior (read 2026-10-31).
Listing on HistChat is not an endorsement or a security review. MCP servers can access data or perform actions, so review the source and permissions before connecting.
