Privacy Policy

When you use the HistChat extension on a supported AI platform, it reads your conversations through your own signed-in browser session and stores them locally in your browser. This includes conversation titles, messages, timestamps, and platform details; a local search index built from them; local copies of your saved prompts, folders, and folder assignments; export data generated from your conversations; and extension settings and status.

This data is kept using browser storage technologies such as IndexedDB and extension storage. Conversation contents are not synced to HistChat Cloud, and HistChat does not upload them to its servers. Exports (PDF, Markdown, text, and JSON) are generated in your browser from your locally stored conversations.

If you use Continue Here or Transfer, HistChat inserts (or attaches) text from a conversation you choose in the message box of an AI service you open, in your browser. HistChat does not send it anywhere itself and does not submit it for you; it reaches that service only if you choose to send it, and is then handled under that service's own policies.

If you create or sign into a HistChat account, we process your email address, a unique account identifier, your sign-in method (email and password, or Google), authentication and session information, and your plan and entitlement records. We also keep a count of the PDF exports you use each month so the Free plan's monthly limit can be applied.

Account functionality is handled through Supabase. If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides the information needed to sign you in. Signing in is optional for the local features of the extension.

Cloud Sync is included with Pro and Lifetime plans. When you are signed in on a paid plan, HistChat syncs the following to your HistChat account:

• your saved prompts (title and text);
• your folder names;
• which folder each conversation is in, stored using the AI platform's conversation identifier rather than the conversation's title or contents;
• related timestamps; and
• markers showing that an item was deleted, so your other browsers can apply the deletion.

Conversation contents are not synced to HistChat Cloud. Synced items are stored in your HistChat account. Local prompts and folders remain on this browser when you sign out.

Free accounts do not upload folders or saved prompts. If a paid plan ends, items you already synced stay in your account and remain available to you, but new changes stop syncing.

When you delete a synced prompt, folder, or folder assignment, HistChat marks it as deleted in your account so your other browsers can remove it too. This is not an immediate or permanent erasure from our systems, and deleted items may remain stored in our database, marked as deleted.

Paid plans are purchased through our payment provider, Dodo Payments. When you check out, your account email and HistChat account identifier are sent to the provider so the purchase can be matched to your account. The provider processes and stores your payment details; HistChat does not store full payment card details.

HistChat stores your plan status and the provider's reference identifiers for your customer, subscription, and payment records, and receives payment event notifications from the provider to keep your plan up to date.

The HistChat website (histchat.com) uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how the website is used so we can improve it and the product — for example which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, whether they follow a link to the Chrome Web Store, and where they stop when signing up or upgrading.

Google Analytics is off by default. It is loaded only if you choose "Allow analytics" in the notice on the website, and nothing is sent to Google Analytics before then. If you decline, it is never loaded. You can change your choice at any time with "Analytics settings" in the footer of any page; turning it off stops measurement and removes the Google Analytics cookies this website set. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage.

When analytics is on, Google may receive standard website analytics information: the pages you view (addresses with any sign-in codes or tokens removed), page titles, the site that referred you, an approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device details, and a random identifier stored in a cookie. We also record a small set of actions: clicks to the Chrome Web Store, playing the product video, starting or completing sign-up or sign-in (only whether you used email or Google), choosing a plan, starting or completing checkout (only the plan and its list price), and opening Manage Subscription. We do not enable Google's advertising features for this website. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

The website also uses PostHog, a product analytics service, under the same choice: it is off by default, loaded only if you accept analytics, and stopped when you turn analytics off. It receives the pages you view (addresses with any sign-in codes or tokens removed), uncaught website errors, and a small set of actions: starting sign-in or sign-up with email or Google, requesting or completing a password reset, starting checkout (only the plan), and opening Manage Subscription. It uses a random browser identifier and is not linked to your email address, name or account. We do not enable session recording, automatic click or text capture, or advertising features in PostHog.

HistChat does not intentionally send AI conversation content, saved prompts, conversation titles, folder names, search queries, extension data, your email address, your name, your account identifier, or payment card details or payment identifiers to Google Analytics or PostHog. Analytics is used on the website only. It is separate from the HistChat extension's local indexing, search, and AI Activity features, and the extension does not currently include product analytics or advertising trackers.

Our hosting and infrastructure providers may keep standard technical logs, such as IP address and request information, to operate and secure their services. The website also uses cookies that keep you signed in. If you play the product video on the homepage, it loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain and is subject to Google's terms and privacy policy.

HistChat works with user-accessible AI services such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok. Those services have their own privacy policies and terms, and HistChat does not control those platforms or their data practices.

HistChat does not sell user conversation content. Limited information may be processed by service providers needed to operate authentication and database hosting (Supabase), sign-in (Google, if you use it), payments and billing (Dodo Payments), website hosting, website analytics (Google Analytics and PostHog, only if you accept analytics), and configuration.

Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it through the product, browser controls, or by removing the extension, subject to browser behavior.

Account and Cloud Sync data is kept while your account exists. Payment and billing records may be retained as required for service operation, accounting, and legal obligations, and records held by our payment provider are kept under that provider's own policies.

Automated account deletion is not available yet. To request deletion of your HistChat account or your synced data, email histchat@numerbyte.com from the email address on your account with "Data deletion request" in the subject. We may ask you to verify your identity and, if you have an active subscription, to confirm how you would like it handled.

Requests are handled by a person, so deletion is not instant. Deleting your HistChat account does not delete records held by our payment provider, and it does not remove data already stored in your browser by the extension; you can remove local data through your browser's controls or by removing the extension, subject to browser behavior. Deleting an account does not by itself issue a refund; see our Refund Policy.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Contact us to exercise them.

We use reasonable technical measures intended to protect account and service data. No online service or local software environment can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

HistChat is not intended for children under the minimum age required by applicable law or for users who cannot legally agree to the service terms.

This policy may be updated as the product evolves, including if we change how analytics or other features work. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
