by Slack
Search Slack, read threads, send messages and edit canvases from an AI assistant through Slack's hosted server.
Best for
Teams that want an assistant to find past decisions, summarise threads and post updates in Slack from a supported MCP client.
Slack ties access to a registered app, so setup depends on the client you use. Follow Slack's own guide for your client.
Important
Only apps published in the Slack Marketplace and internal apps can use MCP; unlisted apps are not allowed. Slack names Claude.ai, Claude Code, Perplexity and Cursor as partner clients that work without building an app.
Slack runs its own hosted MCP server at mcp.slack.com. Once a client is connected and the user has authorized it, an assistant can search messages, files, people and channels, read a channel or a thread in full, send or schedule messages, add reactions, and create or update canvases and lists. It speaks Streamable HTTP only. Access goes through a registered Slack app, so a workspace's admins can approve and manage each client, and every call counts against the same rate limits as the Slack Web API.
Confidential OAuth. The MCP client must be backed by a registered Slack app with a fixed app ID, and each user authorizes it; the scopes needed depend on the tools used. If the app has allowed IP address ranges configured, requests from other addresses are rejected.

The server is documented in Slack's own developer documentation at docs.slack.dev (the page footer credits Slack Technologies, a Salesforce company), which describes it as the Slack MCP server and lists its endpoint, OAuth endpoints and rate limits. No MCP Registry entry was found for it on 2026-10-31; several community Slack servers are registered under other names.
Listing on HistChat is not an endorsement or a security review. MCP servers can access data or perform actions, so review the source and permissions before connecting.
