Overview

Linear hosts its MCP server, so clients connect to mcp.linear.app and sign in through OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration. The default endpoint can find, create and update issues, projects and comments in your workspace. Linear also provides a separate /mcp/readonly endpoint that only ever exposes read tools, which suits cases where an assistant should report on work without changing it. In place of the interactive sign-in, Linear's docs describe passing an OAuth access token or API key as a bearer token. The older SSE endpoint is a deprecated fallback; new setups should use /mcp.

What it can do

  • Read-write access at https://mcp.linear.app/mcp; read-only access at /mcp/readonly, which only exposes read tools.
  • An API key created with only the Read permission is an alternative way to keep access read-only.
  • Streamable HTTP is the primary transport; the /sse endpoint is a deprecated fallback for clients without Streamable HTTP support.
