This server is a hosted endpoint. Point your MCP client at the address below, then follow the publisher's guide for sign-in and client-specific steps.

Important

Neon says the MCP server is intended for local development and IDE integrations only, and does not recommend using it in production, where powerful operations could cause accidental or unauthorized changes.

Overview

Neon's MCP server turns natural-language requests into Neon API calls: creating projects and branches, running queries and carrying out database migrations. The hosted server at mcp.neon.tech/mcp is the main route, signing in with OAuth or an API key, and npx neon@latest init can configure it for Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code in one step. Scopes and a read-only mode narrow what a connection can do. Neon says the server is meant for local development and IDE use, and does not recommend it for production environments.

What it can do

  • Creates projects and branches, runs queries and performs migrations from natural-language requests.
  • A connection URL can carry readonly, projectId, category and roleName parameters to fix the grant, so the authorization page confirms a narrower scope.
  • Read-only mode disables write operations such as creating projects or branches and running migrations.

What you need

Sign-in and credentials

OAuth sign-in to Neon, or an API key for remote agents where OAuth isn't available. A Neon account is required. If a project uses IP Allow, the hosted server's static IP addresses must be added to the allowlist.

Request headers

The hosted endpoint asks for these headers.

  • Authorizationsecret
  • x-read-only
