Figma

by Figma

Bring Figma design context into a coding agent to generate code from frames, read variables and write back to the canvas.

Best for

Front-end teams implementing designs who want the assistant to read the real frames, variables and components instead of working from screenshots.

Remote

This server is hosted by its publisher. Pick your client for the matching setup.

Important

Only clients listed in Figma’s MCP catalog, such as VS Code, Cursor and Claude Code, can connect to the remote server. Figma has a waitlist for developers who want a new client added.

Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, then enter this URL:
https://mcp.figma.com/mcp
  • Claude Desktop adds remote servers through Connectors, not through claude_desktop_config.json. Menu names can differ by plan.

Format checked Oct 30, 2026 against Claude Desktop documentation. Client settings change, so confirm with the client's own docs.

Overview

Figma’s MCP server gives an assistant structured access to design files. The core use is design to code: select a frame and the server returns its layout, components and variables, which the assistant can turn into code, with Code Connect mapping Figma components onto the ones in your codebase. The hosted remote server can also write to the canvas, which Figma describes as free during a beta period. A desktop server that runs through the Figma app exists as well, but this entry covers the remote one. Only clients in Figma’s catalog can connect, and rate limits depend on your plan and seat, with View and Collab seats getting only a small monthly allowance.

What it can do

  • get_design_context returns a structured React and Tailwind representation of a selection, and get_variable_defs extracts the variables and styles it uses.
  • Code Connect lets generated code reuse the actual components in your codebase.
  • The remote server can create and modify native Figma content such as frames, components, variables and auto layout; writing outside your drafts needs a Full seat.
  • Agents can generate placeholder images after asking permission and disclosing Figma AI credit use.

What you need

Sign-in and credentials

You sign in with your Figma account the first time you connect, and the remote server does not need the Figma desktop app. Access follows what your account can open in Figma. Figma for Government supports only the desktop server.
